All aboard the Real Ale & Cider Trains at the Spa Valley Railway

Visit the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells and hop on board the Real Ale and Cider Trains to enjoy a pint or two while travelling through the High Weald countryside between Tunbridge Wells West and Eridge on 2 and 9 April 2022 during the Scottish Steam up and Caledonian Steam Weekends.

The on-board experience is approximately two and a half hours long and the special bar carriage will not only have some great tastings ales and ciders but also have a selection of hot beverages, soft drinks and snacks available to purchase during the journey.

It is just £15 per person to travel in one of the open carriages and all tickets include a free first pint per person!

Why not leave the car at home and travel by mainline train to Tunbridge Wells and take the 15 minute scenic walk down the High Street and along the Pantiles to reach the Spa Valley Railway’s Tunbridge Wells West station.

On Saturday 2nd & 9th April the Real Ale Trains will take on a Scottish theme as the railway is operating two special events over both weekends which will two terrific Caledonian Railway steam locomotives together for the first time at the railway – Caledonian Railway 0-4-4T No. 419 and Caledonian Railway 0-6-0 No. 828.

As this year is the railway’s 25th anniversary, there is an opportunity to purchase one of the unique 25th Anniversary ½ pint beer tankards that will be on sale during the event.

Real Ales on 2nd & 9th April are from the Cairngorm Brewery, Aviemore, Scotland (steam locomotive 828 hauling trains during these two events is based at the Strathspey Railway in Aviemore!)

Cairngorm Brewery Company is a craft brewery established in 2001, situated in the village of Aviemore within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland.

Other beers will include Nessie’s Monster Mash, Sheepshaggers Gold, Cairngorm Gold, Stag, Tradewinds, Wildcat, Cairngorm IPA and Black Gold.

The fantastic tasting ciders will be from Thistly Cross, Scotland’s leading cider producer which is situated in the beautiful East Lothian coast in one of the sunniest areas of Scotland.  Ciders will include Thistly Cross Traditional, Thistly Cross Whisky Cask, Thistly Cross Strawberry, Thistly Cross Ginger, Thistly Cross Elderflower and Thistly Cross Cloudy.

What’s included in the £15 per person ticket price?

Two return train journeys to Eridge, departure from Tunbridge Wells West is at 19:00, returning between 21:30 and 22:00.

First pint of ale included in the ticket price per person.

Access to the bar throughout the evening to purchase other drinks and light refreshments.

This event is only suitable for people aged 18+.

It will also be possible to book a Fish & Chip Supper or hop on board the Real Ale Train to enjoy a pint! on Saturday 2 April at 7pm.

About the Spa Valley Railway

This heritage railway is entirely run by volunteers and has been operating trains for the past 25 years.  The railway operates a service most weekends and in school holidays between Tunbridge Wells West Station and Eridge.  The railway also operates a number of successful events every year which all raise vital funds to keep the railway operational for the enjoyment of all.
